Let’s talk about our incredible livestock guard dogs, Mauser and Maddie. These two might look playful and inviting, but their dedication and bravery are nothing short of inspiring.

One evening last week, as I closed up the farm and waited for the egg layers to roost, I reflected on the courage and selflessness of Mauser and Maddie. Every night, they stand guard, ready to defend our farm from any threats. Their loyalty and bravery are a testament to their training and their innate sense of duty.

Mauser and Maddie have found their unique roles here at Grand View. Mauser patrols the fields, protecting our chickens, piglets, and calves from predators like foxes, coyotes, and raccoons. He even keeps an eye out for daytime aerial threats. Maddie, on the other hand, guards the farmhouses, especially focusing on the children. She follows them closely, ensuring their safety from any potential dangers, whether animal or human.

Despite the nightly battles they face, we make sure Mauser and Maddie know they are appreciated. From regular grooming and vet visits to hearty meals and plenty of treats, we treat them like farm royalty.

If you get a chance to encounter these loyal pups on our farm, it's important to know that Mauser does his job best when given plenty of space to guard and protect. Maddie, on the other hand, will come up to greet you and enjoys the attention.

As we celebrate the upcoming holiday, let’s take a moment to appreciate the example set by Mauser and Maddie. Their unwavering service and sacrifice remind us all of the importance of duty and protection.

Thank you for being a part of our farm family. Have a wonderful week.

Your farmer,

- Nick

Pigs on Pasture

Amidst our busy days, it's easy to lose sight of our mission and the reasons behind our work. We set objectives, beat deadlines, but what's the ultimate goal? Recently, I've had the chance to reflect on this, particularly in relation to the pigs we raise on our farm. The "why" behind our animal care is as important as the "how"...
